The University announced earlier today that Chuck Neinas, a big time consultant, will be working alongside Alden & Associates in the search for UConn’s next head coach.
Neinas has a great track record and has had a hand in many big name hirings. For example, Neinas had a hand in the hiring of Bob Stoops at Oklahoma, Mack Brown at Texas, Les Miles at Oklahoma State and then LSU and Mark Richt at Georgia, along with plenty of others.
The fact that Hathaway has hired his services shows how much this hire means to him and the athletic department. Hathaway has not yet given a timetable for the hire, however, and many candidates will likely be looked into. Interim head coach Hank Hughes is among the candidates, and straight out said at today’s presser that he wants the job.
According to Desmond Conner at the Hartford Courant, former Tennessee head coach Phillip Fulmer is interested in the position, although it’s not yet known if there has been any contact between Fulmer and the University. Conner also said that Delaware head coach K.C. Keeler is also a possibility.
